Message from Raj Kalady, Managing Director, PMI (India)

The period since PMI Conference- 2009 has been a momentous one for India. Notwithstanding the Global Financial Crisis that engulfed world economies, the strong growth trajectory India witnessed can be attributed to a number of policy decisions by the government. However, along with these, there has been a silent factor not taken into account: the mind shift in management concepts of industry leaders. The economic upheaval resulted in many of the paradigms revered during India's march towards globalization, getting shattered. And industry leaders were forced to go back to their drawing boards to rework their strategies.

India today has all the requisites of a budding superpower: a strong economy, a stable governance model, resource wealth and surplus manpower. What it needs now is to meld these together. India also needs to prove that notwithstanding its legacy, we can deliver quality comparable to the best in the world. And, as proven across countries, in transforming economies from the Arabian Gulf to China, professional project management is the catalyst.

The theme of PMI Project Management Conference 2010-Mumbai aptly sums up the mantra India Inc has to follow if needs to reclaim its place of pre eminence on world stage, "Leveraging Project Management for Excellence, Growth and Transformation". And the application of this mantra starts from the grass root level, however small or large the organization. Project management techniques have been successfully implemented across sectors and hierarchies, and have resulted in time, monetary and human resource efficiencies. The challenge that companies are presently facing such as inability to meet the surge in domestic demand which can best be countered by leveraging project management techniques in management and industrial processes. In fact, during the economic downturn, as more and more companies moved towards professionalism in project management techniques, their efficiencies actually increased. In times of an economic upturn, project management techniques can actually unlock a company's potential and help it to grow and transform into an organization able to leverage its strategic strengths.

The Eleventh Planning Commission projects that if India is to reach anywhere close to its potential, we need over $500 billion during the Plan period. In the light of this, and with timelines being compressed, prioritizing the scarce resources at hand and delivering quality within the period has become even more imperative. Getting competent and qualified professionals on board is the only way forward if India wishes be on path to achieve its target.

The PMI Project Management Conference 2009 in Hyderabad was a resounding success and set a new standard in organizing conferences. I am happy to note that the Organizing Committee-2010 is going all out to replicate last year's success. I expect this year's conference in Mumbai, will not only set a new benchmark but also do the field of project management proud, putting into action the ideas and concepts that we at PMI advocate so passionately.

As a key stakeholder in India's growth story, you are invited to the PMI Project Management Conference 2010 in Mumbai. Look forward to seeing you there.

Raj Kalady
Director, PMI (India)

Message from Girish Kelkar, Conference Chair

Seasons Greetings from PMI India National Conference Committee.

Today the world is going through an unprecedented economic upheaval. Tough economic situations impose tougher challenges but also give rise to new opportunities as well. Every organization today is faced with a challenge of rationalizing resources for the short term while maintaining long term objectives. Availability of multi-skilled human resources strengthens the organization to handle such challenges.

In recent years, most organizations in sectors like IT, ITeS, Engineering & Manufacturing Industries, FMCG, Service Industry, Oil & Gas, Infrastructure Development & Government & Defense Projects based organizations have been experiencing the need for "Professional Project Management" in all their projects. The impact of efficiently managed projects on ROI and Operational Productivity and the economy as a whole has been proven repeatedly in the past. Highly trained Project Mangers are becoming a vehicle for growth & sustained profitability in modern global organizations. We now need logical growth of the project management activities that will help us develop stronger nation in years to come.

PMI India and conglomeration of seven PMI Chapters in India (PMI TEAM INDIA) have been arranging annual conferences in different cities. Last year we arranged our first major conference at Hyderabad with a theme of "Unleash the power of project management for a better tomorrow". This year the conference would be held at Mumbai in November 2010.

One can notice that projects encompass almost every field of human endeavor. The project management methods have matured over the last few decades and now can be put to use for general development of industrial, business & economic activity. The methods are useful not only for the efficient project management but also can be used for generating "Excellence, Growth & Transformation" of the organizations in the society at large. Keeping such objectives in mind, PMI Team India has aptly decided "Leveraging Project Management for excellence, growth and transformation" as the theme for 2010. We request all the PM professionals & PM professional organizations to actively participate in this conference and help us further promote the message for betterment of project management practices in every walk of economic & social endeavors.

As an integral part of such on going efforts we would like to appreciate and award outstanding efforts made by individuals or organizations that have contributed significantly towards development of the economy in several sectors. These contributors have worked tirelessly and have completed large and complex projects in spite of the hurdles faced by them during execution. Apart from Business & Industrial organizations it may be useful to appreciate the efforts made by several individuals and organizations that have carried out outstanding projects for social upliftment in the country.

Some of the awards to be presented this year are indicated below for reference.
