Award Categories

PMI India has established a number of awards to recognize and honor contributions and achievements in the project management profession. PMI India has been administering the PMI Awards Program on an annual basis since 2009. PMI India has come out with the following award categories which will be announced as part of the PMI India National Conference 2018.

  • Project of the Year
  • Project of the Year - Contribution to the Community
  • Project of the Year - NGO

This award recognizes and honors a project team that has delivered superior results through exemplary application of project management principles in any of the following categories of projects.

1. Category Large
A project or program or similar initiative which has budgeted project cost of more than INR 1,000 crores
For Project of the Year - Large projects, the project should have been completed between the period of April 1, 2015 and March 31, 2018
2. Category Medium
A project or program or similar initiative which has budgeted project cost between INR 100 to INR 1,000 crores
For Project of the Year - Medium projects, the project should have been completed between the period of April 1, 2016 and March 31, 2018
3. Category Small
A project or program or similar initiative which has budgeted project cost between INR 5 to INR 100 crores
For Project of the Year - Small, the project should have been completed between the period of April 1, 2017 and March 31, 2018
4. Category Micro
A project or program or similar initiative which has budgeted project cost less than INR 5 crores but more than INR 50 lakhs
For Project of the Year - Micro, the project should have been completed between the period of April 1, 2017 and March 31, 2018

This award recognizes and honors significant initiatives undertaken by corporate bodies or organizations (as part of their Corporate Social Responsibilities activities) towards improvement and well-being of the community. It can be a project, program or similar initiative and must demonstrate application of project management principles in delivering benefits to the community.

For Project of the Year - Contribution to Community, the project should have been completed between the period of April 1, 2017 and March 31, 2018.

This award recognizes and honors a project team that has achieved superior results through exemplary application of project management principles for projects, programs or similar initiatives implemented by Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs). This category excludes the efforts undertaken by corporate bodies or organizations as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility activities.

For Project of the Year - NGO, the project should have been completed between the period of April 1, 2017 and March 31, 2018.

General Submission Guidelines
Purpose
This award recognizes and honors a project team that has delivered superior results through exemplary application of project management principles.
Eligibility

Any project or an significant independent phase of a project that is perceived as having effectively applied project management principles and techniques is eligible to apply provided that:

The project falls under one of the following categories:

Project of the Year Award Category - Large Any large project implemented by an Organization from the private or public sector, with cost of INR 1,000 crores or more
Category - Medium Any medium size project implemented by an Organization from the private or public sector, with cost range of INR 100 - INR 1,000 crores
Category - Small Any project implemented by an Organization from the private or public sector, with cost of less than INR 100 crores but more than five crores
Category - Micro Any project implemented by an Organization from the private or public sector, with budgeted cost of less than INR 5 crores but more than fifty lakhs
Project of the Year - Contribution to the Community (CSR) Projects of any size implemented by an organization from the private or public sector as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities
Project of the Year - NGO Projects of any size implemented by Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs)

All organizations registered in India as Trusts, Societies and Section 8 companies that have been working for a minimum of three years on social and environmental transformation are eligible.

Organizations that propagate political or religious doctrines are excluded from participation.

Note: The primary criteria for classification as Large, Medium or Small will be the budgeted cost of Project. However, if need be the applicant's project may be re-classified by PMI keeping in mind the data furnished on project time-line and effort.

The project has been completed between the period of April 1, 2017 and March 31, 2018
In case of Project of the Year nomination, the project should have been accepted as complete by the Client/Owner, prior to sending the nomination
In case of Project of the Year for Contribution to Community or NGO category, the project should have been accepted as complete by the Sponsor /Governing body of the nominating Organization, prior to sending the nomination
Permission is obtained for the use of copyrighted materials included in the submission
Research or development projects, which may contain proprietary or confidential, technical, or commercial information, are publicly disclosed by owner
Complete project management has been driven from India, and significant portion of the project execution has been done in India
The nominated project has been successfully completed using processes and approaches consistent with Global Standards in project management, an example being A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) - Fifth edition or equivalent.
Evaluation Criteria
Project of the year (Large, Medium, Small and Micro)

Demonstrated originality and uniqueness of applied project management techniques including innovative application of practices / methods
Though the award reads "Project of the year", the outcome is due to the underlying usage of project management techniques that needs to be rewarded due to
Meeting or improving on cost and schedule performance when compared to original/initial goals/objectives
Exhibiting technical aspects and advancement of the project management profession consistent with global standards in project management – an example being "A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK Guide)" - Fifth Edition or its equivalent
Demonstrating excellence in overcoming inherent complexity of the project and unusual conditions, issues and barriers that required special team performance and actions
Showcasing customer/client/project sponsor delight for having met/exceeded expectations as evidenced by letters of appreciation

Project of the year (Contribution to community, NGO)

Met or exceeded sponsor/stakeholder needs as evidenced by letter(s) from the sponsor/governing body of the organization that was impacted by the project
Number of Awards

For each category, a maximum of one Winner and one Runner- up will be identified out of the nominations received.

Presentation of the Award and Recognition

The Recipients will be presented with the awards at the Project Management National Conference, India 2018, being held in October this year. PMI India will acknowledge the Winner and Runner up of the awards at specified PMI events and also through their e-magazine - Manage India and any other PMI or non-PMI Publications. The Project Manager or a person designated by the project team should be available to receive the award.

Submission Requirements
All submissions will have to be made through an online portal which can be accessed through the link http://www.pmi.org.in/awards/
Submissions have to be in English and in electronic form only
Wherever possible applicants are encouraged to support their responses with metrics and quantitative figures
Submissions should include explanation of all industry and domain based acronyms, wherever used in their responses
There is no limit to the number of projects each applicant can submit
Contacts for securing peripheral project information by the judging committee should be included in the project application. The release or clearance of such peripheral materials should be provided by and will remain the responsibility of the nominating person / group
The submittal must also contain:
Written consent/support by owner and/or client recognizing the submittal of the project and stating that the project has been accepted as complete
A written agreement of relevant stakeholders to assist in preparing a Showcase Project article to be published in PMI Publications and marketing articles
Nomination Procedure

The application process will be in two stages - Preliminary and Final.

Stage 1 - Preliminary

Step 1: The nominee will submit online 'Preliminary information' about the nomination before April 30th, 2018 on the PMI Conference 2018 website using the link http://www.pmi.org.in/awards/

The nominee will provide the Preliminary Information by answering a set of questions on the online portal. At this stage, the nominee does not have to send any documents as attachments.

Step 2: The nominee's application at this stage will be evaluated by a panel of volunteer jury members and the results will be intimated by email by PMI India by May 30th, 2018.

Stage 2 - Final

Step 1: The nominee will have to submit online 'Final information' about the nomination before June 30th, 2018 on the PMI Conference 2018 website using the link and login credentials as done in Stage 1.

The nominee will provide the final information by answering a set of questions on the online portal. This may include information on processes related to the various knowledge areas or similar or equivalent processes.
At this stage, nominee may upload documents as attachments (up to a max of 30 MB). The submitted documents should be related to project management processes rather than documents containing purely technical information. It may include sample documents and artifacts of the processes. For e.g. Work Breakdown Structure, Schedules, Cost Estimates, Quality and Risk Plans, Progress Reports, Change Management Plans, Procurement documents, Staffing and Communication plans.
All the documents submitted should be converted to a PDF non-editable format. The documents should be compressed into a single folder using WinZip etc. so that only a single compressed entity gets uploaded.

Step 2: The nominee's application at this stage will be evaluated by a panel of volunteer jury members and PMI will intimate the results by email by August 1st, 2018. Those successful at this stage will become the shortlisted nominees for the award. A maximum of 6 nominees will be considered for each category of award. The final winner and runner up will be chosen in the next step.

Step 3: The nominee's application at this stage will be finally evaluated/validated by an elite panel of jury members comprising of individuals of national/international repute. PMI will announce the results (but not specifically as winner or runner-up) by email/phone by August 13th, 2018.

Award Nominator Eligibility

The 'Award Nominee' could be a sponsor, a senior member of the project team viz. equivalent of Project Manager, Program Manager, Project Director or a senior representative of the organization.

Verification Process and Selection

The 'Project of the Year' award evaluation will be done by an "at-large" panel of jury, established by PMI India / Organizing committee. Two nominations will be selected as the Winner and Runner-up for each award category. Selection will be made by August 13th, 2018. The results of the PMI India Awards Program will be communicated to the awardees by the organizing committee. Formal announcement of the winner shall be made at the PMI India National Conference to be held in New Delhi in October 2018.

General Terms and Conditions
The nomination package should be completed in conformance with the established format
All necessary clearance, release, and permission needed for public release of all submitted materials will be obtained in writing
Expenses will not be reimbursed for assembling the nomination package or for any presentation materials that may need to be created should the project be selected as the winner

The decision of the designated panel of reviewers will be final
In case the panel of reviewers feel that none of the individual submissions meet the minimum standards as stipulated in this web page, the award will stand cancelled and no Winner and / or Runner up will be announced
The feedback collected from applicants at various stages during the submission process is treated anonymously. The feedback is not shared with the jury and have no bearing on evaluation of the nominations
