Message from Raj Kalady, Managing Director, PMI (India)

Dear Delegates,

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the third PMI India Project Management Research & Academic Conference to be held in February 2015. A lot has changed in the socio-economic scenario in India since the last such conference which was held at IIT Madras, Chennai, in February 2013. What has remained unchanged is the growing need for skilled project professionals.

The world is seeing an explosive growth of projects among organizations across all sectors. The current lack of academic programs in project management is a cause for concern, but on the other hand spells out a significant opportunity for institutions. In the Twelfth Five Year Plan (2012- 2017), US $1 trillion is going to be spent on infrastructure projects, this reflects the pressing need for project management. A critical gap between the supply and demand of skilled project professionals is already reaching crisis proportions.

The promulgation of project management education in India has truly assumed great significance in this millennium. This rising demand means that the industry expects young professionals to hit the ground running. Consequently, academia needs to focus on imparting quality project management education that aids young professionals to perform well from the word go. This led to our conference theme - Project Management Excellence: Education, Research and Practice.

To build excellence in education, academia needs to focus on quality research and exemplary projects from real-world practices. We strongly believe that project professionals equipped with the right skills can make a difference. This burning topic certainly sets the stage for talks, discussions and debates with subject matter experts and world class academicians who will be present as speakers. You can also hear top notch technical papers selected from amongst hundreds of quality entries.

We're excited to be hosting the conference at NITIE, Mumbai, a premier engineering institute of India. This vibrant setting is home to some of the finest academicians in the country and some of the brightest young minds. Their stellar support and involvement will help us to deliver this conference with great success.

Given our experience of hosting five national conferences and two research and academic conferences in the past, we at PMI India can assure you that that the conference will not just provide you stimulating and quality content, but also a fantastic delegate experience.

I hope you will enjoy and learn from the discussions, knowledge-sharing and networking over the duration of the conference.

Happy learning!

Message from Ashok Pundir, Conference Chair

Dear Project Management Practitioners,

Warm Greetings!

As Chairman and on behalf of the organizing committee, I am privileged and delighted to welcome you all to the Project Management Research & Academic Conference 2015 at NITIE, Mumbai from 13-15 February.

The conference committee has brought together a truly unique programme that addresses the broad international coverage of subjects relating to the theory and practice of Project Management. A series of state-of-the-art plenary presentations and technical paper presentations will be presented by internationally renowned practitioners and academicians.

Increasing complexity and global mobility in business environment affect the way the firms compete in the market place. In the light of this, project management has become a lot more important and thus acts as a key strategic tool to drive critical initiatives, leading to growth. Organisations that consistently espouse good project management practices secure noticeably higher growth and success than those that do not. In my opinion the time is now right to reflect on a number of questions related to various aspects of project management in our dynamic environment: Do we have a contingency plan for uncertain outcomes? Do we balance flexibility with reliability and accountability? Do we balance decision quality against decision speed?

This brings us to the focus of this conference i.e to explore a broad range of topics and methodological research in project management research and to provide a platform to disseminate state-of-the-art research in this field.

We hope you will enjoy the content of the Conference and have ample opportunity to network with your colleagues. I hope this conference will prove to be an inspiring and truly transformative experience for you.
